JDRF's Education and Outreach program offers personalized support to families and adults living with type 1 diabetes.   Our goal is to provide information and resources about type 1 diabetes, diabetes research, and how best to manage and cope with this disease during each new phase of life.

Kaiser Permanente Ohio Awards Community Benefit Grants for 2009


Support Group Meetings

The Northeast Ohio Chapter of JDRF holds support group meetings on the third Saturday of every other month.  The 2010 support group meetings are held from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM during the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.  These meetings are held at the JDRF Office, located at 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd., Independence, OH 44131. The support groups offier an opportunity for newly diagnosed and their families to talk with other families and medical professionals on a variety of issues that arise when living with type 1 diabetes.


Speaker Series

In addition to support group meetings, speaker series are held throughout the year.  These educational topics address significant issues impacting life with diabetes.

Understanding Health Insurance and Maximizing Your Benefits

The Northeast Ohio Chapter of JDRF is thrilled to offer this workshop to all of you. This workshop is designed to provide you with the tools you need to become an advocate for yourself and/or your loved ones affected with type 1 diabetes as well as address those frequently asked questions.  Thomas Wirbel, Vice President of CPI-HR, is our guest presenter for this exciting event.

Kaiser Permanente Ohio Awards Community Benefit Grants for 2009

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Northeast Ohio Chapter: awarded $10,000.


The “Education and Outreach Program” will use the funding to increase the number of educational workshops per year, and to facilitate support meetings for people with Type 1 diabetes.

“We are so grateful to Kaiser Permanente for selecting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a Thriving Communities Grant recipient. As a result of this funding, we will be able to improve the quality of life and health of those affected with Type 1 diabetes in Northeast Ohio by sharing knowledge and resources and providing support to those living with this devastating disease,” Laura Chalker, Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, stated.
